How to play Glowtide

Glowtide is a one-thumb trick-shot game above a lantern festival. You bank paper lanterns off festival posts, strike the Windkite as it crosses the lane, pair matching colours to light the next tier, and keep the canopy above the festival rope. This guide covers aiming, the routes, powers, the Festival Kit and the Daily Tide.

The rules

Bank off the posts

Four to six festival posts line the lane between the launcher and the canopy. Drag anywhere to aim: the dotted aim line bends at each post the shot will strike. Release to launch, or turn on tap to launch in Settings.

Strike the Windkite

Within seconds of the start, the Windkite crosses the lane, and it returns every few seconds after. A fresh shot that hits it is kicked sideways and scores 250 points, doubled during Tide Rush.

Pair to climb

Two lanterns of the same colour that touch join and light the next tier. Tiers keep nearly the same size; colour, paper pattern and the candle-lights inside, one per tier, tell them apart.

Keep above the rope

Lanterns hanging below the festival rope build the pressure meter, and the run ends when it fills. Clear the rope and the pressure drains away. The SAVE slot beside the launcher holds a lantern for later.

The eight tiers, in order

Tangerine → Jade → Magenta → Pearl Gold → Cobalt → Coral → Violet → Festival Crownlight

The ranked Daily Tide moves to these festival-post lanes and the early Windkite on 31 October. Every other run already plays this way.

Tips for better shots and higher scores

Glowtide rewards a read of the angle first, and a tidy canopy second.

  • 01
Use the posts, don't fight them. The aim line shows every bank before you release. A post is often the only way to reach the far side of the canopy, so read the angle off it instead of aiming straight up into the crowd.
  • 02
Land clean shots.A launched lantern that reaches its match within one second, while still moving fast, scores a clean pair worth 1.6× the points. Pairs from a pile-up never count as clean, so fire at a nearby match, banking if you have to.
  • 03
Chain pairs quickly.Pairs that follow each other closely build a chain, and each link adds to the multiplier. A chain of four starts Tide Rush: six seconds of double points, Windkite strikes included. Set up two or three matches side by side, then trigger them in a row.
  • 04
Use SAVE to fix bad draws. If the lantern in the launcher has nowhere useful to go, store it and take the next one. A saved lantern that matches a big tier later is worth waiting for.
  • 05
Read the Windkite. The Windkite crosses the lane in four patterns: glide, wave, swoop and crosswind, and it peeks in from the edge before each pass. Watch its path before you launch, and use the sideways kick of a strike to reach a match.
  • 06
Play to the route.Open Sky Festival is the classic lane of posts and wind. On Moonlit Promenade a side current reverses every few seconds, and pairs made against it score 1.5×. On Golden Bazaar warm updrafts lift the canopy on a cycle, and pairs made during one score 1.5×.

Gather, Harmony and Updraft

Every pair fills a charge meter. Higher tiers and longer chains fill it faster, and each full meter earns one power: whichever of the three you hold fewest of. You can hold up to two of each. Tap a power to use it.

Gather

Pulls the canopy together and eases pressure a little. Use it when matches are close but not touching.

Harmony

Pairs up the lowest matching lanterns on the board for you. If there is no match, it raises the lowest lantern one tier.

Updraft

Lifts the whole canopy clear of the rope and eases pressure the most. Save it for the moment the rope is about to be crossed.

Festival Kit specials

Specials are one-launch rules you load onto the lantern in the launcher. A run takes up to three. Free players can store up to 9 of each; Pro stores up to 99.

Kinlight

Pairs with the first lantern it touches, whatever its colour.

Threadlink

Pulls the nearest matching lantern into its path.

Slipstream

Passes through mismatched lanterns and stops at its match.

Bellburst

Rings on arrival and pushes nearby lanterns apart.

Starstep

A clean pair climbs one extra tier.

Second Wind

A missed lantern sweeps back through the board once.

Longsong

Protects the current chain until the following launch.

Mooring

Pins where it settles until the following launch.

Glowtide Daily Tide

The Official Daily Tide is 50 launches with the same seed, route and three-special Festival Kit for every player. From 31 October it uses the festival-post lanes and early Windkite described above; until then it keeps the previous Daily rules, so players on every version are ranked on the same board. You get one ranked run a day, and it is identical for free and Pro players. The route rotates daily across all three sky routes, including the two Pro routes, and free players play them on the Daily. A new Daily Tide starts at 00:00 UTC, with a daily mission to aim for.

The Official Daily advances your streak. Every third consecutive day awards a Festival Kit special, and every fifth awards a Tide Charm, which can protect your Festival Canopy from a missed day. Pro keeps your Tide Charms topped up to four.

Glowtide FAQ

What is the top lantern in Glowtide?

The Festival Crownlight, the eighth tier. Two Violet Tidelights pair into it.

How do I earn powers?

Pair lanterns. Every pair fills the charge meter, and higher tiers and longer chains fill it faster.

Can I continue an Endless Rise run later?

Yes. An unfinished Endless Rise run appears on the home screen as a saved run you can continue.

Can I aim without dragging?

Yes. Turn on tap to launch in Settings and the lantern fires toward the point you tap. The aim line still shows every bank.

Do Pro players get an advantage on the Daily Tide?

No. The Official Daily Tide is the same board, kit and single ranked run for everyone. The Pro Open Daily is a separate board.

Why does Glowtide look and play differently now?

Glowtide was rebuilt around the shot: festival posts in every lane, a Windkite that arrives within seconds, lanterns that keep nearly the same size at every tier, and a new icon. The rules version is pinned to each Daily Tide date, so no ranked board ever mixes the old and new rules.

Glowtide is free to start, with no ads.
